iPhone (iOS 26)

iOS 26 on iPhone should use Wirelayer's OpenVPN profiles with the official OpenVPN Connect app. Have your Wirelayer username, password, and preferred server profile ready before you begin.

  1. Sign in to your Wirelayer account and open the OpenVPN config section in the customer area.
  2. Download the .ovpn file for the server you want to use to your iPhone.
  3. Open the App Store, search for OpenVPN Connect, and install the official app.
  4. Launch OpenVPN Connect once so iOS completes the first-run prompts, then return to the downloaded profile in Files or Safari's downloads list.
  5. Tap the downloaded .ovpn file and choose Open in OpenVPN or share it to OpenVPN Connect.
  6. When OpenVPN Connect offers to import the profile, confirm the import.
  7. If iPhone asks whether OpenVPN Connect may add a VPN configuration, tap Allow and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
  8. Enter your Wirelayer username and password if the imported profile asks for credentials.
  9. Turn the imported profile on to connect.
  10. When the status shows Connected and the VPN icon appears in the status area, your iPhone traffic is using the VPN.

You can later reconnect directly from OpenVPN Connect without importing the profile again unless you download a new server configuration.

iPad (iPadOS 26)

iPadOS 26 on iPad should also use Wirelayer's OpenVPN profiles with the official OpenVPN Connect app. This works well whether you use your iPad in portrait, landscape, or with Stage Manager.

  1. Sign in to your Wirelayer account and open the OpenVPN config section in the customer area.
  2. Download the .ovpn file for the VPN server you want to use.
  3. Install OpenVPN Connect from the App Store.
  4. Open the app once, complete any first-run prompts, then go back to the downloaded profile in Files or Safari.
  5. Tap the downloaded .ovpn file and send it to OpenVPN Connect.
  6. Approve the profile import inside OpenVPN Connect.
  7. If iPadOS prompts you to add a VPN configuration, tap Allow and authenticate with Touch ID, Face ID, or your passcode.
  8. Enter your Wirelayer username and password if the profile asks for them.
  9. Enable the imported profile to connect.
  10. Once the profile shows Connected, your iPad is ready to use the Wirelayer VPN tunnel.

If you keep more than one Wirelayer profile on your iPad, you can switch between them in OpenVPN Connect whenever you need a different server location.
